The recent release of Qlik Sense 3.0, NPrinting 17.1 and QlikView 12 SR4 (at the same time!) has quickly led to questions surrounding the compatibility of Qlik’s platform.
Many customers already use QlikView and NPrinting, but we thought we would talk through some of the important compatibility details surrounding these releases to help you make the decisions you need to make before you consider upgrade or purchase.
The biggest difference between the two is that NPrinting 17 shifts towards a web-based architecture. Report creation, scheduling and distribution can all be done via any web browser.
NPrinting 16 relies on the locally installed client architecture where reports and content are developed on the NPrinting server.
That depends on a few things. If you’re already running QlikView 12, your options are a bit limited. QlikView 12 is only compatible with NPrinting 17.
If you’re running QlikView 11, you have the option of using either 16 or 17. However, NPrinting 16 only supports up to 11.20 SR 13 as of right now (SR14 just came out – see NPrinting requirements here).
Overall, keep the following in mind:
It’s important to understand the differences and impact of the version compatibility. If you’re unaware of the upgrades and compatibility specifications, a lot of time, effort and work can be rendered useless.
Yes! In the most recent release of Qlik Sense, NPrinting 17.1 is compatible with Qlik Sense objects as well as QlikView objects.
As with all major product releases, it will take time to fully stabilize the product. Analytics8 is currently in the middle of our own thorough testing of all these recent releases and will be sharing our insights with our customers soon.
