What’s New in Qlik Sense 3.2

Highlights from Qlik Sense 3.2 include new self-service visualization capabilities, broader deployment options, and a stronger connection between Qlik Sense and QlikView.

Qlik Sense 3.2 is now available for download, and with this version you’ll experience enhanced visualization and analysis in your product. We’ll walk you through the new and improved capabilities and point out how they can improve your experience with Qlik Sense.

ADVANCED COLORING

New features will make it easier to choose colors for visualizations, measure and KPI objects. You’ll see:

  • A new color palette selector for visualizations (with the ability to enter specific hex numbers)
  • A color selector for measures in the master library which allows users to set a color for a measure used anywhere in the app
  • Multiple color thresholds for KPI objects, meaning primary and secondary metrics can display different colors
  • Color by measure in more chart types, including scatter plots and bar charts

How this helps? You can customize your dashboards to adhere to branding standards, and you’ll have color consistency across visualizations. For example, imagine revenue automatically displaying in green, expenses in red, and inventory in blue without users spending time getting the colors to match.

CALENDAR MEASURES

A new menu option automatically generates time period fields for measures using set analysis. Just select a measure, and generate period-to-date and other date range aggregations by year, quarter, month, and week. Set analysis expressions are then automatically created for the user and then stored in the master library for easy drag-and-drop use in visualizations.

How this helps? Time period analysis got way easier by eliminating the requirement to construct complex set expressions. Even the most novice users can create a YTD measure without the need to write set analysis.

QLIK GEOANALYTICS

This capability allows you to add advanced maps to applications with geospatial analysis for Qlik Sense and QlikView. Please note this not the same as out-of-the-box mapping- it’s an addition to the price sheet and must be purchased separately outside of Qlik Sense.

SHARED PERSISTENCE

There’s a new option for deploying large scale, multi-node Qlik Sense environments that allows nodes to share a single storage location, including a repository database and network folder. This removes the step of synchronization across sites.

How this helps? Simplifying node storage provides architecture flexibility for large deployments and improves site stability and performance. Additionally, in the event that a node goes down, you can cluster your repository database and your file share for increased fault tolerance.

SUPPORTED DESKTOP CLIENT

The Qlik Sense Desktop can now be authenticated against a Qlik Sense Enterprise server environment, with full support by Qlik in production environments. The desktop client can be used in deployments by users administered on the server, and it also works with Qlik Sense Cloud.

How this helps? Get more deployment flexibility by utilizing the Qlik Sense Desktop as part of fully supported production environments.

QLIKVIEW CONVERTER

With this converter, you can directly import dimensions, expressions, variables, and visualizations from QlikView applications into Qlik Sense. Those objects will appear in the Qlik Sense master library within a starter app.

How this helps? Accelerate development if you’re looking to migrate or copy QlikView apps to Qlik Sense.

Note: if you’re thinking about converting your apps from QlikView to Qlik Sense, here are some things you should consider first.

VISUALIZATION, NAVIGATION, & SEARCH IMPROVEMENTS

Qlik Sense 3.2 also offers several additional enhancements to visualization, navigation and search functionality.  These improvements to the user experience include:

  • Time awareness in combo and bar charts
  • Adjustable column widths for pivot tables
  • A details pain that provides additional information for objects details pane
  • A search index progress bar indicator
  • Various navigation improvements
